Chinatown Gateway Charette

Thank you again to everyone who came to the 2nd day of the Chinatown Gateway Charrette! We had over 60+ people who spent the Saturday giving their input to our consultants. The 3rd and last Charrette will be held on July 21 (1pm-5pm) at the Metropolitan community room on 38 Oak Street, Boston MA. The Chinatown Gateway Coalition would like to encourage everyone to attend schedule permitting.

The 2nd day of the charrette began with coffee, tea and pastries. A quick overview of the 20-acre Chinatown Gateway area was presented by SAS Design and Howard, Stein/Hudson for newer participants. Afterwards, participants broke out into smaller groups representing the 5 different colors of the elements: Gold, Blue, Red, White, Green. Each group was assigned a task and given a digital camera to document their findings. The tasks were:

  • Best Places to Live
  • Best Places to Work
  • Best Places to Play
  • Best Places to Shop and Eat
  • Best Community Resources

When each group came back, group members presented their findings to everyone. There was considerable feedback and many people had lots of ideas. Based on the input from the Charrette, the consultants will present their possible scenarios for the Chinatown Gateway area on July 21. They will also be open to further comments and feedback from the community on that date. Maps, photos and diagrams used in the Charrette are now on display in the Metropolitan community room. If you would like to see the maps in the community room or sign-up for the last Charrette, please contact the Chinatown Gateway Coalition coordinator Kye Leung at info@chinatowngateway.org.
