Chinatown Master Plan 2010 Description
The Chinatown Master Plan 2010 project is a 2-year community initiative to update the Chinatown master plan. The project was made possible by funding provided by foundation(s) to the Chinatown Gateway Coalition.
Scope & Goals
• To set an agenda for Chinatown that strengthens it as a neighborhood and center for families in the Greater Boston Chinese and Asian American community;
• To set an agenda for Chinatown that allows for a sustainable social, economic and cultural community;
• To develop policies to ensure the preservation of existing low-income and affordable housing, and create new mixed-income housing;
• To reaffirm the points where Chinatown connects to adjacent neighborhoods and develops the positive aspects of these connections;
• To create a shared vision with the institutions in Chinatown that builds on mutual goals and works towards solutions that all members of the community can embrace.

The study area is based on the Chinatown Neighborhood Council boundaries, Boston Redevelopment Authority zoning boundaries, and edges of Chinatown with organic growth.
Governing Body
A 13-member Oversight Committee was formed in December 2008 to guide the direction of the Chinatown Master Plan 2010 with the community. The fiscal agent for the project is the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center. The Oversight Committee meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at BCNC, 38 Ash Street, Boston.
